André von Bremen, who has grown up and lives in Flanders, will present his vision of what distinguishes Northern Europe and should determine its future; he will reference the model of the Hanseatic League, the Baltic island of Gotland off southern Sweden, the anthropology of the region and the necessity of a longer-term, more communitarian, “Rhineland” form of capitalism.
He has now retired after a thirty year career in the graphics and publishing industry, in the course of which he had been studying German and Japanese machines in English, thinking in French and selling in Dutch – which may help to stave off Alzheimers, he says.
He also participated in politics and became elected on to his local council.
